[Popular Science] What are open loop and closed loop of motors

2024-09-2719 views

Motors are an indispensable part of modern industry and life. Whether it is power tools, electric vehicles or industrial robots, they all rely on motor drives. The motor control system can be divided into two types: open-loop and closed-loop, depending on whether there is a feedback signal. These two systems each have their own characteristics and application scenarios.

1. Open-loop control system

The open-loop control system is the simplest form of motor control system. It has no feedback link, and the input signal directly controls the operation of the motor through the controller.

The system generally consists of a controller, a driver, and a motor. The advantages of this system are simple structure and low cost, but its disadvantages are also obvious, that is, it is impossible to correct the system error, and the accuracy and stability of the motor operation are relatively poor. Open-loop control systems are mainly used in occasions where precision requirements are not high, such as electric fans, washing machines and other household appliances.

2. Closed-loop control system

In order to improve the running accuracy and stability of the motor, people have developed a closed-loop control system. The closed-loop control system feeds back the output signal of the motor to the controller through the feedback link. The controller compares the feedback signal with the set value, calculates the error, and then adjusts the input signal to make the output of the motor as close to the set value as possible.

The system generally consists of controller, driver, motor, encoder, etc. The closed-loop control system can effectively reduce errors and improve the operating accuracy and stability of the motor.

Three, integrated motor

The integrated motor system is a new type of motor control system developed in recent years. It integrates the motor and the driver together to achieve seamless connection between the motor and the driver.

The advantages of this system are compact structure, small size, easy installation and maintenance. At the same time, because the driver is directly integrated into the motor, it can respond to the motor's operating status and make adjustments more quickly.

Therefore, integrated motor systems have broad application prospects in many fields, such as robots, automated production lines, etc.

The open-loop, closed-loop and integrated motor systems of the motor each have their own characteristics and application scenarios.

The open-loop system has a simple structure and low cost, and is suitable for occasions where precision is not required.

The closed-loop system can improve the operating accuracy and stability of the motor, and is suitable for occasions where precision is required.

The integrated motor system has the advantages of compact structure and easy maintenance, and is suitable for occasions that require compact, high-performance motors.

In actual applications, the appropriate motor control system can be selected according to specific needs.
